The games have begun!

This week we celebrated summer with an Olympic theme and learned about the Olympic traditions in Ancient Greece in comparison to the games today. Campers discovered the different sports played during the Summer Olympics and what athletes need to do in order to train and participate! We made painted Olympic Rings, aluminum foil torches, and olive wreaths to represent the different countries and traditions involved in the Olympics. Campers even created homemade gold medals out of dough!  On Friday afternoon we had Olympic-themed games outside and the Brookeside Summer Olympic Challenge was no match for our campers! To unite ourselves as a team, we tie-dyed t-shirts and decorated them to wear for our games. Campers participated in several activities such as the javelin throw, relay race, aquatic bucket fill-up, Olympic ring toss, and the long jump. After working hard like an Olympic athlete, we enjoyed tasty and healthy treats to keep ourselves hydrated and strong! Some of our snacks included cheese ball torches, celery stick “rowers”, Popsicles, and veggies with dip. Thank you to all the parents who helped out and made our event possible!
