The great outdoors is no challenge for us!

This week at Brookeside we celebrated summer by “camping out”. Campers began the week by making zucchini bread using the zucchini from our garden and creating our camping packing list. We made handprint campfires, Popsicle stick tents, and our own glow-in-the-dark firefly jars! Campers also took a nature walk around the playground and used parts of nature such as flowers, grass, and leaves to spell out our names. We talked about the important items to include in a first aid kit, and even had a first aid relay race!

Just when we thought our week couldn’t be any more fun, we had a visitor come to camp on Friday. Miss Poley’s brother, a geologist, came in and talked to us about rocks, camping, and hiking tips! He made us more prepared for a camping trip and told us what to do if we saw a bear! Campers completed a scavenger hunt and finally relaxed by our “campfire” with a campfire cone. Our cones were filled with chocolate chips, marshmallows, and berries, the perfect treat to end an exciting and busy week.
