Yeehaw! Here at Brookeside, our campers had a wonderful week down on the farm!

We began our week by planting seeds and making our own mini harvest gardens in a cup. Campers created paper plate chickens, furry cotton-ball sheep, and milk jug cows. We even made muddy painted pigs using brown paint, oatmeal, and sand! Campers learned more about the responsibilities of farmers as they tended to vegetables in the school garden and milked a rubber glove “cow”. Campers practiced barn themed yoga moves each day and sang classic farm songs such as “Old McDonald” and “B-I-N-G-O”.

On Friday we took a field trip to Oley Turnpike Dairy to visit with the animals and learn about farms from the experts! We met the animals, fed them pellets, and enjoyed a tasty ice cream treat. It was exciting to see some unusual and exotic animals on the farm, such as the monkeys and lemurs! We learned that being a farmer comes with a lot of responsibility that isn’t always easy, but it sure is fun! Thank you to all the volunteers who helped us make it a great and safe trip!
