We had a very exciting month at Brookeside Montessori.
We had a very exciting month at Brookeside Montessori. We learned so many exciting facts about each other with our first project of the school year. We presented our “All About Me” bags to our classmates. We shared 4 to 5 items from our bag about ourselves. The students had an opportunity to ask questions about the objects presented to the class. Students shared trophies, hobbies, family vacations, pets, and traditions.
We are enjoying listening to stories to identify characters and learning about colors. We separated colors and mixed colors together to see what happens!
We were introduced to letters! We read stories that began with the letters “s” and “m”. We identified words beginning with the letter sounds, learned how to write the letters, and we made snakes in the shape of a “s” and made “m” out of macaroni.
In Social Studies and Science, we discussed Johnny Appleseed. We identified the states and cardinal direction Johnny Appleseed traveled in the United States. We identified different types of apples. We looked at Red Rome, Granny Smith, Gala, Honeycrisp, and Fuji apples. We learned the correct way to use apple peelers to peel a section of skin from our apple. We took the apple peel and placed it under a microscope to look at the skins from different apples. We also identified the parts of an apple. The students also enjoyed cutting up apples, rolling out dough and eating their homemade apple pie!
In Geography, we introduced the largest type of landform (continents) and the largest bodies of water (oceans) on our planet. We had a wonderful time using playdough to make continents. We sang the continent and ocean song.
Brookeside’s child-centered educational environment provides activities and a Pennsylvania state approved curriculum appropriate to each child’s developmental stage. The integrated curricula are guided by a highly trained staff, who are aware of the needs of the individual child.
Enrollment is ongoing as space is available.
