Brookeside Montessori School art students in kindergarten through sixth grade are participating in a traveling art show from January through May. Students will get to experience exhibiting their artwork in public spaces. This is a curated exhibition by Rachel Yoder, artist and art teacher at Brookeside Montessori School. The intention of this exhibition is to expose students to the beautiful and rewarding art discipline of community arts. Partnering with local businesses, students become mindful of the aesthetic responses art can evoke. Students are being introduced to art making for a purpose and practicing mindfulness during the art making process.

Boyertown Community Library is hosting our Traveling Art Show for the month of March. We discussed how we feel when reading a book and how it feels to ignite our imaginations. Collectively we came up with the idea of wings and flying to new places when reading.

Fly - Collaborative Art Installation cStudent’s created feathers with different colored paper and markers. They were asked to use line and pattern on their feathers. They were also asked to create feathers with positive words or sayings on them. We discussed building an collaborative art installation as a group and contributing as many feathers as we could to make this piece work. Students created the feathers and Mrs. Yoder assembled them on the wings.

In art, an overarching theme for this year is folk art of the Pennsylvania Dutch. The current project is a nod to the bird and angel motifs of Pennsylvania Dutch folk arts.

Students were asked to think about reading and imagination while creating their art, linking this project to Boyertown Community Library.

Students collaborated with Mrs. Yoder and came up with the idea that books can transport you to new places through your imagination. We brainstormed how we could translate this idea into visual art. They loved the idea of books letting our imaginations fly!

Come see our exhibit at Boyertown Community Library and enjoy all the amazing things the library has to offer! The exhibit will be on display until March 31, 2020. We thank Boyertown Community Library for graciously hosting our third exhibit in the Traveling Art Show series!

We want to also thank Pennsylvania Partners in the Arts for a grant to expand our art program this year. For more information on our school and art program please visit:
