The Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten class made and sold dog treats as a fundraiser for the SPCA of Montgomery County.
We bought the all natural, all healthy ingredients and baked 191 bags of dog and cat treats! The children measured the ingredients, mixed everything together, and used dog bone shaped cookie cutters to make dog treat cookies. Then they baked them in the oven. For the cat treats, they mixed the ingredients and rolled each treat into a tiny ball and then baked them in the oven, too.
After all the treats were baked and cooled, they put them in bags to sell. Parents, teachers, grandparents, and friends purchased the treats for their pets. We earned $191.00!! We took the money and bought dog, cat, hamster, guinea pig, rabbit, and ferret food and delivered it to the animals in the shelter at the SPCA of Montgomery County.
Pre-K and Kindergarten learned a lot about cooking, math, and economics with this fun project. However, the most important lesson they learned is that it’s really great to do nice things for others!
