Classes from Brookeside Montessori went on field trips to Savidge Farms and Wilcox Farms to celebrate the season. Students and chaperones participated in fun autumn activities like riding a hay wagon, choosing a pumpkin from the pumpkin patch, and navigating a corn maze. Fun for All!
The students in Grades K - 4 had their first field trip of the school year! They visited Frecon Orchards near Boyertown. On our tour of the orchard, students learned the parts of an apple, how an apple tree grows, and how the tree produces fruit. It was such a fun day and the weather was perfect for walking through the orchard.
Migrating Monarchs. In September the Brookeside Montessori Elementary class met with Ron Richael, a local expert on butterflies. Mr. Richael showed the children his butterfly garden. He reviewed the life cycle of a butterfly and discussed the plants that are important to caterpillars and butterflies.
Recently the students in the PreK and Kindergarten classes traveled to Frecon Orchards. On our tour of the orchard, students learned the parts of an apple, how an apple tree grows, and how the tree produces fruit. The students were taught how to pick an apple properly and picked several different varieties of apples that grow in the orchard. After our tour, we enjoyed apple cider and donuts! Later in the week we used some of the apples to make applesauce.
Brookeside Montessori School cooperated with Farmer John of Quiver Farms to produce cider! Each child had a job: bathing apples, pressing apples, and visiting with the farm animals who eat the peelings at the end of the day! (These included a rabbit and two chickens!) Of course, we all sampled the cider too! Thank you Quiver Farms!
