Preschool and Enrichment students at Brookeside Montessori School have been busy this November! They learned about testing and mapping their taste buds during our systems of the body unit in health class, and watched a hot air balloon near our school -- just in time for our science unit on air, land and water!
Congratulations to Mrs. Marks, our Pre-School and Enrichment teacher, on her efforts to secure a $500 grant from the National Agriculture in the Classroom Organization and Tractor Supply Company! As a grant recipient, Brookeside Montessori is paired with the Tractor Supply Store in Quakertown and we'll be working closely with them in the springtime when it's time to get our school garden started.
This week in Miss Poley's Pre-K class at Brookside Montessori School, we made sunflowers out of paper plates, bubble wrap, construction paper, and paint. We learned about the life cycle of a sunflower, parts of the flower and read a story about how to grow sunflowers in our garden. As a culminating activity, we acted as scientists and dissected a real sunflower!
Fall Frolic! Brookeside Montessori preschool students, teachers, and parent or grandparent chaperones enjoyed an "Autumn Adventure" at Savidge Farms in Mertztown PA. We played in a tractor slide, a combine climber and a hay maze, too! After a hayride to the movie barn to see the lifecycle of the pumpkin, we went to pick a pumpkin from the pumpkin patch! Each person got to choose a pumpkin and carry it home! It was a great morning!
Brookeside Montessori School cooperated with Farmer John of Quiver Farms to produce cider! Each child had a job: bathing apples, pressing apples, and visiting with the farm animals who eat the peelings at the end of the day! (These included a rabbit and two chickens!) Of course, we all sampled the cider too! Thank you Quiver Farms!
