What is one way students at Brookeside Montessori get to practice scientific thinking and problem-solving?
Brookeside Montessori’s Annual Science Fair!
The students in the Elementary class participated in this annual event on January 16. They students worked on their project for several weeks using the scientific method of question, research, hypothesis, experimentation, and drawing a conclusion. At the science fair students shared their projects with the school community, practicing public speaking skills.
One student enrolled in dance school was curious about which style of dance raises her heartbeat the fastest. She thought it would be hip hop. However, she discovered that jazz was the style that raised her heartbeat the fastest and shared during her presentation some theories as to why that was.
Another student wondered how connected the senses of sight and taste are. He poured two cups of apple juice and put red food coloring in one cup. He found a greater percentage of children thought the two cups tasted different. The adults he asked to taste were not as easily tricked by their eyes and the greater percentage thought they were the same.
