On Monday we started our study off with Antarctica booklets, Antarctica animals and Antarctica inspired art. We read wonderful books and listened to tranquil sounds of Antarctica. We made beautiful snow ball paintings with homemade snowball paint brushes (made with clothes pins and puff balls).

On Tuesday we created our own warm, snuggly winter hats to keep warm on our Antarctica adventure!

On Wednesday we had Antarctica themed show and tell! Our campers started a beautiful collage piece with tiny tissue paper pieces. We created and enjoyed an Antarctica sensory bin with beautiful water beads and animals.

On Thursday we added our penguin portraits to our Antarctica collages. We also added self-portraits to our winter hats! Thursday afternoon we created a wonderful collaborative piece of art titled “March of the Penguins”. All the campers drew their own penguins that marched in line with their friends penguins.

Friday we created gorgeous polar bear wet on wet watercolor portraits using a crayon resist technique and Epsom salt. Referred to as Aurora Antarctica, the southern lights, or aurora australis can best be seen from the most southern of landmasses, including Antarctica. And in the afternoon, we had a field trip to Rita’s Water Ice in Boyertown.
