Where’s My Passport?
YAY! Asia TODAY!
Brookeside Montessori Summer Camp “travels” in Asia this week (July 15-19, 2019). Our mixed-age group of campers ages 3-8 assisted each other with projects, games, cooking and geography lessons revolving around the continent of ASIA! Some of our faves: a “Color Race” and mango lassi from India, “fireworks” art project, Chinese lanterns, koi windsock for Children’s Day in Japan, and papercutting shadow puppets/shadow puppet theater from Lebanon! Fun games using language from each culture–the chicken game, eench/nouch, zum zum, patintero and stretchy jumpropes were the BEST!!!!
Other activities included flag studies, pin globes, trip maps, identifying money from each culture, and dancing traditional dances to traditional music.
Our week culminated in an early morning tea ceremony, followed by a party serving Asian foods for lunch. Attached are photos of students at a “carwash” during water play, creating fireworks and lantern art projects, and steeping and appreciating the color, scent, and warmth of the teas.
Brookeside’s child-centered educational environment provides activities and a Pennsylvania state approved curriculum appropriate to each child’s developmental stage. The integrated curricula are guided by a highly trained staff, who are aware of the needs of the individual child.
Enrollment is ongoing as space is available.
