What is one way students at Brookeside Montessori get to practice scientific thinking and problem-solving?
Brookeside Montessori’s Annual Science Fair!
The students in the Elementary class participated in this annual event on January 22. Each student worked on their project for several weeks using the scientific method of question, research, hypothesis, experimentation, and drawing a conclusion. At the science fair students shared their projects with the school community, practicing public speaking skills.
One student was curious about fingerprints. She learned that even though fingerprints are unique, there are similar fingerprint patterns. She wondered if our thumbprints are the same patterns. After taking left and right thumbprints of several people she concluded that they are different. Guests at the science fair had their fingerprints analyzed to see if they had an arch, loop or whorl.
The students showed enthusiasm for their project and a few are planning ahead to next year.
What do Brookeside Students Receive?
Brookeside Montessori students retain their joy of learning throughout their years at the school. They are not bored, trapped in their seats listening passively to a teacher. Instead, the students are actively moving about the classroom, investigating areas of interest: math, language, geography, science and more.
Brookeside Montessori students are taught the values of hard work; the rewards of being open-minded; the power of convictions; and the possibilities that present themselves when challenges are approached with confidence, compassion and creativity.
