In Social Studies

We learned about the United States and a few of our many national treasures, including the Statue of Liberty and the bald eagle. We then turned our attention north, to Canada, sugar maples and Niagara Falls. We also discussed two Native American groups, the Leni Lenape and the Lakota, in order to understand that Native American groups spoke, dressed and lived differently from one another. To celebrate this, the children made a “buffalo skin” drawing to illustrate an authentic Native American story of their choice. Finally, we studied Mexico, including facts about the Aztec people, jaguars, and the Day of the Dead.

In Science

We turned out attention to anatomy. The children learned about the function of the human skeleton and the names of four bones. They were also fascinated to discover the digestive system, with all of its parts and functions! We ended the month by discussing healthy vs. unhealthy foods and the five senses that tell us about our world.
