“A child is born intelligent and full of curiosity. For a child, a book is a very personal thing. There is a kind of communication with books that doesn’t take place any other way.” – Jan Brett
Our sixth week of camp featured stories from author and illustrator Jan Brett. We participated in many activities inspired by her books.
We started the week off in a western way learning a simple square dance and reading Armadillo Rodeo. One camper said his favorite activity was making boots, and another camper liked making the horses. We read several stories featuring the character Hedgie. One of our campers said, “Hedgie Blasts Off was my favorite story.” Another camper agreed and said, “I liked when we made muffins.” We made muffins then decorated them with pretzel sticks and raisins to look like Hedgie! Our last story of the week was The Umbrella. The story takes place in a rainforest. Later that day we went on a field trip to Jungle Wonder in Limerick. Campers had a great time playing in the jungle gym, balladium, and a round of mini golf.
