Mrs. John’s Pre-K and Kindergarten class had lots of fun today with their “Butterfly Release”.
For the last six weeks, the children have been watching the caterpillars grow and make their miraculous change into Painted Lady Butterflies.
They charted the caterpillars growth each day and waited patiently for the butterflies to emerge from their cocoons. The children learned the parts of the caterpillar, the parts of the butterfly and made books with that information. They made butterfly headbands complete with antennae and wore them today for the big release.
Miss Poley, our classroom assistant, got the butterflies out of their cozy house and released them. The weather was perfect – warm and sunny. We all watched as they flew over the field to find a new home!
In addition to the academics, learning opportunities about other cultures and celebrations is part of the curriculum at Brookeside Montessori. We are now taking enrollment for the 2015-2016 school year.
