Exploring Stories by Eric Carle

During our fifth week of camp at Brookeside Montessori School we enjoyed many stories from author and illustrator Eric Carle. We had fun learning about insects, ocean animals, the moon, clouds and more. After reading the Mixed Up Chameleon campers did an interesting science experiment to learn the effects of ph on color. A highlight of the week was a field trip to the Wildlands Conservancy in Emmaus. Campers loved catching, observing, then releasing insects.

Storyteller Week at Brookeside Summer Camp

Summer camp adventures at Brookeside Montessori School. Never underestimate the power of a good story! Storytellers all over the world share their stories in the same ways! They incorporate, rhythm, rhyme, and repetition to help the listener attend, predict, and participate! They use actions, drawings, or even a device like knots on a counting rope to retell stories which are passed down using oral traditions.

Fun With Non-Fiction at Brookeside Summer Camp

Just the Facts, Kid! Fun with Non-Fiction - summer camp at Brookeside Montessori School. During our week long exploration of nonfiction we explored the world of biography, history and science- based literature. Some highlights included self-timelines created by each child, exploration of the childhood stories of authors, reading about physics and creating and using simple machines including ramp, pulley, gears, catapult, and hot air balloon. Our favorite day included exploring through google maps and National Geographic to see South America (rainforest) and creating a collaborative book on the honeybear, also known as kinkajou.
