Fun With Non-Fiction at Brookeside Summer Camp

Just the Facts, Kid! Fun with Non-Fiction - summer camp at Brookeside Montessori School. During our week long exploration of nonfiction we explored the world of biography, history and science- based literature. Some highlights included self-timelines created by each child, exploration of the childhood stories of authors, reading about physics and creating and using simple machines including ramp, pulley, gears, catapult, and hot air balloon. Our favorite day included exploring through google maps and National Geographic to see South America (rainforest) and creating a collaborative book on the honeybear, also known as kinkajou.

We all watched as they flew over the field to find a new home!

Homemade Dog and Cat Treats Project

Brookeside Montessori School Pre-K and Kindergarten students baked homemade, healthy dog and cat treats. They bagged and sold the treats to raise money for the animals in the Montgomery County SPCA. The children used their math skills to measure ingredients and then had fun using dog-shaped cookie cutters to get the treats ready for baking. It was a fun way for the children to learn to give back to their community.
