Exploring Stories by Eric Carle

During our fifth week of camp at Brookeside Montessori School we enjoyed many stories from author and illustrator Eric Carle. We had fun learning about insects, ocean animals, the moon, clouds and more. After reading the Mixed Up Chameleon campers did an interesting science experiment to learn the effects of ph on color. A highlight of the week was a field trip to the Wildlands Conservancy in Emmaus. Campers loved catching, observing, then releasing insects.

They incorporate, rhythm, rhyme, and repetition to help the listener attend, predict, and participate! They use actions, drawings, or even a device like knots on a counting rope to retell stories which are passed down using oral traditions.
