The foundation, through the support of Waste Management, announced the donation of $7,000 of scholarship money to the families of Berks County. Scholarship funds are made possible through Pennsylvania's Educational Improvement Tax Credit (EITC) program. The Amazing Raise is a giving challenge that brings together the Tri-County region's (Montgomery, Northern Chester, Eastern Berks) nonprofit community to help raise much needed unrestricted funds and shine a spotlight on the work nonprofits do to make the 422 corridor a better place to live and work!
Students in Pre-K and Kindergarten have been learning about apples during the month of September. The children enjoyed going on a field trip to Bauman’s for a tour about making apple butter. They also went on a trip to Frecon's orchard and learned about the different types of apple trees, what apples need to grow, how to gently pick apples, and much more.
That was just one of the ideas from the story Iggy Peck, Architect by Andrea Beaty. Students in Kindergarten - 6th grade listened to the story of Iggy during this week's STEAM classes. Afterwards the children used their math and engineering skills to plan and build structures with only toothpicks and Play Doh.
This week's healthy snack is local watermelon. Vitamin B6 is found in watermelon which helps your immune system produce antibodies to fight disease. Also found in watermelon are Vitamin A important for eye health — it helps you see in dim light, Vitamin C bolsters your immune system and heals wounds, and Lycopene for hearth health.
