This Week’s Healthy Snack from Bause Catered Events is Seckel Pears!
Seckel pears are thought to be the only true American pear variety. They are believed to have originated in the early 1800s as a wild seedling in Philadelphia. They are in season from September – December. Deemed the “sugar pear”, seckels are small in size but boast the sweetest flavor profile. By eating high fiber foods like pears, children may stay satisfied longer. By choosing nutrient dense, filling foods, we tend to eat fewer calories throughout the day. A Seckel pear has about 50 calories. Eating pears helps keep your immune system strong so you don’t get sick!
The pears we had for snack came from Weaver’s Orchard in Morgantown, PA. Our healthy snack is provided by Bause Catered Events in Pottstown with the help of a grant from the Pottstown Area Health and Wellness Foundation.
