Grace and Courtesy lessons are an important part of the Montessori program. Dr. Montessori stated: “A child who becomes a master of his acts through repeated exercises of grace and courtesy, and who has been encouraged by the pleasant and interesting activities in which he has been engaged, is a child filled with health and joy.”

In 2019 we started a special class called Social Skills to reinforce grace and courtesy and introduce conflict management skills in a purposeful way. Now the Social Skill class is called Wellness and is taught once a week. Classes cover topics like Healthy Friendships, Bully Prevention, Taking Care of Body Systems, Staying Healthy / Preventing Illness, and Nutrition. The curriculum for Upper Elementary students also covers the Onset of Puberty, Personal Hygiene, and Drug Prevention.

This class is part of our BWell program and Healthy Lifestyles Initiatives. At Brookeside Montessori we support children and their families in their decision-making regarding healthy choices and activities.
